Class of 2025: Paulina Arce

Paulina Arce, a member of Northbrook High School’s (NHS) Class of 2025, describes her high school journey as a “rollercoaster ride” — filled with challenges, growth, and hard-earned victories.

Through perseverance and support from teachers and family, Paulina is now about to graduate, ready to take on the future with confidence and clear goals.

“At first, I was shy, nervous, and unsure how to navigate high school,” Paulina shared. “I was even afraid to ask to use the restroom. But over time, I gained confidence and learned how to communicate better. It took time, but now I feel ready to face whatever comes next.”

Paulina admits her early years were marked by missed classes and falling behind in school. However, a turning point came when she realized that change had to start with herself. “No one can help you if you don’t help yourself first,” she said. Motivated by this, she worked hard to improve her attendance and grades.

A big part of her success came from the support of her teachers, especially Ms. Montoya, who helped her stay on track and believe in herself. “Ms. Montoya never gave up on me,” Paulina said. “She checked in with me regularly, helped me get my assignments together, and encouraged me to keep going even when I doubted myself. She also helped me explore college options after graduation.”

With the encouragement of her teachers and the support of her family, Paulina changed her habits and grew more confident. She developed important skills like communication, self-discipline, and perseverance—qualities that helped her balance schoolwork and personal growth.

Looking ahead, Paulina’s dream is to become a nail technician, a passion she’s had since childhood. “Since I was about 10 years old, I loved playing with nail polish and fake nails,” she said. “I’m excited to turn that passion into a career.”

Paulina also says high school taught her valuable life skills, including teamwork, time management, and how to bounce back from setbacks. “High school gave me a taste of real life,” she said. “I learned to ask for help, set goals, and keep moving forward.”

Her advice to younger students is simple and honest: “Choose the right path, avoid negative influences, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Find friends who support you and get involved. High school is what you make of it.”

As she prepares to graduate, Paulina hopes to be remembered as kind, hardworking, and helpful. “I want my classmates to know I was always willing to help and worked hard to improve myself,” she said.

With determination, support, and confidence, Paulina Arce is ready to take the next step and continue growing every day.
