Community invited: Don Coleman likeness will be unveiled in Don Coleman

Former players, colleagues and fans of legendary basketball coach Don Coleman will join his family members and other guests at an unveiling of a life-sized bronze of the coach on Thursday, November 14.

Spring Branch ISD community members are welcome to attend the event, from 4:00-6:30 p.m. in the Don Coleman Coliseum, 1050 Dairy Ashford.

During a short ceremony prior to the unveiling of the sculpture by artist Larry Schueckler, the SBISD superintendent and a former player will speak. Coach Coleman’s grandson will also share some remarks titled, “The Coach, the Man, the Grandfather.”

Coleman was the basketball coach at Memorial High School for 37 years (1962-1992). With 893 career wins at his retirement in 1992, he had the third best record in the state and eighth best record in the nation.

Following his retirement, the SBISD Community Coliseum was renamed in his honor to Don Coleman Coliseum, which is where the bronze statue will be installed.
