CTE students explore real-world learning at CenterPoint South Houston

Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) Career and Technical Education (CTE) students recently took their learning beyond the classroom with a hands-on field experience at CenterPoint South Houston, where they explored careers in energy, infrastructure, and business operations.

During the visit, students toured active worksites, connected with industry professionals, and saw firsthand how the skills they’re developing in SBISD classrooms translate into high-demand careers.

Adding to this partnership’s impact, CenterPoint recently awarded SBISD’s Guthrie Electrical Technology program a $10,000 grant in support of hands-on learning and workforce readiness. This investment will help expand equipment, materials, and opportunities for students pursuing careers in electrical and energy fields.

The trip was one of many CTE field experiences designed to help students explore future pathways, build professional connections, and gain insight into the workforce that powers Houston and beyond.

SBISD currently partners with 174 local and regional business partners and hosts 21 industry tours each year. In the Business, Marketing, and Finance career cluster alone, students earned 434 industry-recognized certifications, contributing to a districtwide total of 1,320 certifications earned during the 2024–25 school year. These achievements underscore SBISD’s ongoing commitment to preparing every graduate for life after high school.

“Our goal is to make learning relevant and connected to opportunity,” said Christina RiceImumwen, SBISD Director of Career and Technical Education.

“When students step onto a job site like CenterPoint and see professionals using the same tools and skills they practice in class, it brings everything to life. Partnerships like these are what prepare students to thrive in college, career, and life.”

Through strong partnerships and authentic learning experiences, SBISD continues to deliver on its vision of preparing T-2-4 Ready graduates for technical training, two-year college, four-year university, and beyond.
