Dinosaur exhibit a R-O-A-R-I-N-G success at Wilchester Elementary
Wilchester Elementary School recently brought science to life by hosting the 'Dinosaur George' traveling museum, a prehistoric exhibit focused on dinosaurs.
The curated exhibit displayed a diverse range of intricate fossil replicas and massive dinosaur skulls that fascinated students and adults alike. Aspects of the exhibit covering a wide range of subjects including art, math, science and literacy.
“It was really important to us that all the teachers in the school, and even the middle and high schools, could be part of this experience,“ said Wilchester teacher Stephanie Walton. Walton, along with educators Sela Burrows and Rachel Marino, co-authored a grant that funded the exhibit. “Being able to connect the curriculum and the larger scope of learning to a fun, hands-on exhibit was really exciting for us.”
In addition, artwork from students at Memorial Middle and Stratford High School was on display. The integrated exhibit was designed as a tangible reminder to elementary students that the learning experience at Wilchester directly links to what they will learn in middle and high school.
This endeavor showcases the Spring Branch Independent School District's (SBISD) dedication to providing a continuous learning continuum for its students. By using events like the Dinosaur George experience, the district helps reinforce its vision of T-2-4 for Every Child, a long-term vision that emphasizes preparing students for future opportunities beyond high school.
Wilchester Elementary's event exemplifies how meaningful educational experiences can inspire a love for learning and help prepare students for their future educational journey. Thank you to the SBISD educators who brought such an immersive and multidisciplinary learning opportunities to our students.
