The local medical community makes possible this annual event. Year after year, event support is provided by the following organizations and individuals: Memorial Hermann Ironman Sports Medicine Institute; Methodist West Houston Sports Medicine; The Orthopedic Sports Clinic; and Drs. E. Peter Sabonghy and Stephen Simonich, both with UT Physicians.

Drs. Sabonghy and Simonich not only gave their own time, but donated to the scholarship effort, and helped with food, T-shirts and other promotional items. “These are quality local physicians and extraordinary companies that believe in a quality education and community involvement,” the SBISD Sports Medicine Dept. stated in special event remarks.

As a part of the recent workshop, students as well as district athletics department and grounds crew members participated in the Stop the Bleed Course. This call-to-action course encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped and empowered in the event of a bleeding emergency before professional help and first responders arrive on the scene.

All athletic training student participants became Stop the Bleed certified, participated in team building exercises, and reviewed human anatomy and emergency action procedures.

“We are extremely proud of our students and very thankful to all that helped us make this event a success,” stated SBISD Sports Medicine. “We would like to give a special thanks to our SBISD community, including Executive Director Paige Hershey, SBISD Athletic Department, and high school campus athletic directors and administrators. We appreciate everyone’s continued support.”
