Edgewood Elementary students expand their imaginations through books

Edgewood Elementary students received six books each to add to their home library as part of a partnership with Books Between Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy practices through book distributions.

“We are excited for our students to receive free books,” said Wendy Johnson, Edgewood librarian. “Reading makes a big difference in students’ academic performance. Events like this ensure they are actively reading, even during the summer months.”

Edgewood is the first elementary school in Spring Branch ISD to partner with Books Between Kids. There is an application and selection process for schools to receive books for students through the program.

Students browsed the book-filled tables and were excited to expand their knowledge and imaginations through reading.

“We have applied to this program for the last three years, and we had the great pleasure of being chosen this year,” said Asten Branecky, Edgewood teacher. “This is a great opportunity for our students, and I am happy to see them so excited to read!”
