Eight Graduating Seniors Awarded CTE Scholarships

Eight graduating seniors were recently recognized with Career and Technical Education (CTE) scholarships. The scholarships were earned through a competitive application and judging process.

The seniors, their parents and CTE teachers were joined on April 25 by several Trustees and treated to a three-course lunch prepared by SBISD’s culinary arts students – who are housed at the Guthrie Center and are themselves CTE students.

Earning CTE scholarships were:

  • Mary Ann Brasher, Stratford High School: Brasher was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Academy of Finance/Academy of Hospitality and Tourism Board of Directors (AOF/AOHT). She plans to study business or economics at the University of Texas or Louisiana State University.
  • Evan Chan, Stratford High School: Chan was named Most Outstanding Academy of Finance student and was awarded a $2,000 scholarship by AOF/AOHT. He plans to study finance or international business at the University of Texas at Austin. The scholarship is sponsored by First Community Credit Union.
  • Regina Gandara Hernandez, Memorial High School: Gandara Hernandez was awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, given by AOF/AOHT. She plans to study hospitality management at the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Montreux, Switzerland.
  • Allyson Hollister, Stratford High School: Hollister was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for Excellence in Career and Technical Education by SBISD CTE. She plans to study nursing at the University of Texas at Austin.
  • Abigail Johnson, Spring Woods High School: Johnson was awarded a $1,000 by TRIO Electric. Johnson was a member of the first electrical pre-apprentice cohort in a program built in conjunction with TRIO Electric and HCC. She plans to study electrical engineering at the University of Houston. 
  • Ashley Ortega, Spring Woods High School: Ortega was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by AOF/AOHT. She plans to study business marketing at Texas A&M University.
  • Valeria Robayo, Stratford High School: Robayo was awarded the $2,500 scholarship by Village Family Practice for health careers, given to a senior who intends to pursue a career in a health care profession. She plans to study business, economics and pre-med at the University of Texas at Austin.
  • Frederick Wilhelm, Memorial High School: Wilhelm was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by AOF/AOHT. He plans to study in the business honors program at the University of Texas at Austin.
