Katherine O’Brien and Charlotte Cagle finished first and second, respectively, at the 2022 Spring Branch ISD Spelling Bee.
Top student spellers from Spring Branch ISD gathered at Westchester Academy for International Studies on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, to compete in the annual Spring Branch ISD Spelling Bee. The competition included more than 47 pre-qualified students from schools across the district in grades 4 through 12. Spellers participated in written tests before advancing to the oral competition. After 16 rounds of the competition, the winning word was "penance." Winners will advance to compete at the regional Houston Public Media Spelling Bee in March.
"We're back! Last year we held the bee virtually. I wouldn't say I liked it. I'm thrilled we are back together in person this year," said Amy Ellingson, facilitator for Advanced Academic Studies at Spring Branch ISD and event director. "Our students put so much time and dedication into studying for this competition, and being able to share this moment with them means a lot."
