Employees celebrate accomplishments alongside Houston Astros during SBISD’s 2022 Service Awards

On Tuesday, June 7, Spring Branch ISD’s Service Awards returned to Minute Maid Park for a celebratory Houston Astros game.

During the event, 2,325 employees including retirees, Teachers of the Year, Principals of the Year and employees with service-year milestones were recognized. The group included recipients from the 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years.

“I am thrilled to be here,” said Elizabeth Villarreal, reading interventionist at Buffalo Creek Elementary. “It is exciting to be recognized for our commitment to Every Child. I am grateful to be part of a team that values those efforts.”

Villarreal recently celebrated 30 years with SBISD.

Before the game, employees being recognized were invited to a reception at Union Station, where they received refreshments and SBISD rally towels.

Service Award honorees received two tickets with a pre-loaded credit to purchase food and beverages during the game. Employees were excited to be there for Dollar Dog Night.

“This has been a great experience,” said Lorenza (Lori) Garay, librarian at Ridgecrest Elementary and 2022 Elementary Teacher of the Year. “I appreciate all the support and recognition I have received at SBISD. I have been with the district for 11 years, and it has been an exciting journey.”

Employees being recognized celebrated their accomplishments alongside friends and family while cheering on the Astros as they won 4-1 against the Seattle Mariners.
