As families prepare for the new school year, there's exciting news for high school students and parents: the expansion of the T-2-4 Toolkit within the CANVAS learning management system.
Previously exclusive to seniors and juniors, this online resource is now accessible to all high school students, offering crucial support and information for life planning after graduation.
Accessible through CANVAS, the T-2-4 Toolkit covers essential topics for students preparing for their futures, including developing post-high school plans, exploring coursework options, and understanding financial aid. It aims to simplify what can often be a daunting process for families.
"We're excited to expand access to the T-2-4 Toolkit to all high school students," said Tyra Walker, Executive Director of Guidance and Counseling in SBISD. "This comprehensive resource is designed to empower students and families with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their educational and career paths."
Connecting families
Beginning this school year, students in grades 9-12 will automatically be enrolled in the T-2-4 Toolkit course on CANVAS. New students will be added throughout the year to ensure universal access to these valuable resources. Families can conveniently access CANVAS and the T-2-4 Toolkit through Canvas Family Access.
Encouraging exploration
The toolkit organizes modules by subject area, making it easy for users to find relevant information quickly. Families are encouraged to log in regularly as new content and updates are continuously added.
"We encourage families to explore the toolkit and take advantage of its resources," said Chavis. "Whether exploring career options, understanding college applications, or planning financially, the T-2-4 Toolkit supports every student's journey."
Support for educators and administrators
Teachers and administrators will also benefit from the T-2-4 Toolkit, using it to provide guidance and support to students navigating high school and post-secondary options. Each campus hosts a customized course within the toolkit, allowing administrators to share specific campus information and resources tailored to students' needs.
"We see the T-2-4 Toolkit as a vital tool for educators," said Kristy Chavis, Director of Guidance and Counseling in SBISD. "It helps us address common questions and concerns students have about their path beyond high school, fostering a supportive environment for goal setting and planning."
Looking ahead
"As families prepare for the upcoming school year, this new toolkit will aid students in achieving their T-2-4 goals and preparing Every Child for a successful future beyond high school," emphasized Walker.
