Fall 2024 Bond Program Update: Replacements, repairs, new additions and more
 

 

Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) continues to make significant progress on its 2017 and 2022 Bond Programs.

With several key projects nearing completion and others advancing, the district is focused on improving educational facilities, enhancing campus safety, and providing world-class learning environments for Every Child. 

Below is a summary of the latest developments:


2017 Bond Program: Replacement Projects and Repairs

  • Memorial Drive Elementary 
    Memorial Drive Elementary, newly built as part of the 2017 Bond Program, opened in August 2024. The project has entered its warranty phase, marking a major milestone in SBISD’s effort to modernize elementary schools.

  • Sherwood Elementary
    The Sherwood Elementary replacement project is in the procurement phase, with construction set to begin in early 2025. The new school will provide updated classrooms and resources for the community. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for December 2024.

  • Woodview Elementary 
    Construction of the new Woodview Elementary is on track, with the facility slated to open in January 2025. The project will provide students and staff with a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment. A grand opening ceremony is scheduled for January 2025 to celebrate project completion.

  • Terrace Elementary 
    Design work for the new Terrace Elementary is ongoing, with Project Advisory Team meetings currently underway. The new facility will offer a modern, flexible, and safe learning environment for students.

  • Spring Branch Middle School Reroofing
    Phase two of the reroofing project at Spring Branch Middle School is in progress, with completion expected by the end of 2024.


2022 Bond Program: New Additions and Major Renovations

  • Valley Oaks Elementary Addition and Renovation
    The expansion of Valley Oaks Elementary, including new classrooms, a cafeteria expansion, and updated entry vestibules, was completed in time for the school’s reopening in August 2024. The project has entered its warranty phase.

  • Northbrook and Stratford High School CTE Projects
    Both Northbrook and Stratford high schools are undergoing updates to their Career and Technical Education (CTE) facilities. Northbrook is in the design phase, with programming meetings ongoing. Stratford’s construction documents have been submitted for permitting, and work is expected to begin Summer, 2025. These projects will take about 18 to 24 months to complete.

  • Agricultural Science Center Renovation
    Renovations at the Agricultural Science Center are underway, with temporary classrooms installed. The project is on track to be completed by Fall 2025. 

  • Guthrie Center Replacement
    Progress continues at the Guthrie Center, with underground utilities and foundation work completed. The masonry and tilt-wall construction phase is underway, with the project on schedule for completion in Summer 2027. 

  • Spring Branch Middle School Reroofing
    Phase two of the reroofing project at Spring Branch Middle School is in progress, with completion expected by the end of 2024.

  • Spring Woods Middle School Renovation
    A two-phase renovation of Spring Woods Middle School is underway, with completion expected in Summer 2025.

  • Middle School Furniture Upgrades
    As part of a district-wide initiative to improve learning environments, new furniture will be installed at six middle schools in Summer 2025. The schools include Memorial, Northbrook, Spring Branch, Spring Forest, Spring Oaks, and Spring Woods middle schools.

Safety and Security Enhancements

  • Impact-Resistant Film
    Installation of impact-resistant film was completed at all district campuses, including elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as pre-K centers. This is part of SBISD’s ongoing efforts to enhance campus security.

  • Fencing Renovations
    A district-wide fencing upgrade project is in progress. The project is scheduled for completion by Summer 2025.

  • Front Entry Vestibules
    In Summer 2024, front entry vestibules were completed at seven campuses. Eleven additional campuses will receive vestibule upgrades in Summer 2025 to further enhance security.


Special Projects: Enhancing School Facilities

  • Pre-K Centers The replacement of play equipment and fall surface material

  • Buffalo Creek ES  The renovation of play equipment and play field and walking track
  • Meadow Wood Elementary Track Replacement
    The track replacement at Meadow Wood Elementary was completed in Fall 2024, providing students with a modern, safe space for physical education and outdoor activities.

  • Wilchester Elementary SPARK Park
    Renovations at Wilchester Elementary, including upgrades to the track, play equipment, and the addition of bicycle parking, are progressing on schedule. The project is expected to be completed by Fall 2025.

  • School Nutrition Services
    Renovations to school nutrition services are underway at Spring Oaks Middle School and Stratford High School, with additional improvements planned for Spring Woods High School.

  • Memorial High School's (MHS) addition was recently highlighted during a national tour at the EDSpaces Conference, exemplifies how thoughtful educational design can support student success while also engaging the surrounding neighborhood.
