Stratford Playhouse – Peter and the Starcatcher

The award-winning Stratford Playhouse will kick off the fall season with its staging of Peter and the Starcatcher, a humorous telling of the backstory for one of fantasy’s best loved characters, Peter Pan. The grown-up prequel story is appropriate for all audiences, but suggested for those 9-years old and up.

Here’s how student director Sydni Moon, a senior, describes this production: “In this wickedly imaginative play, we meet a poor orphaned child on the high seas simply called Boy because, in the absence of a mother and a father, he was never given a name. His sad and lonely world is turned upside down when he meets Molly.

“The daughter of famous Starcatcher Lord Aster, the heroine Molly is on a mission to save the world and protect a treasure trunk filled with magical star stuff from getting into the hands of evil and greedy pirate Black Stache. As they travel aboard the Neverland ship headed for a faraway land, Molly and Boy learn about love, friendship and forge an unbreakable bond.”

This show will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 17-19 and Oct. 24-26, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Oct. 19. All shows will be performed in the Stratford Playhouse auditorium. Get your tickets at the online box office.

Spring Woods High – Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit, SWHS Cabaret, & ComedySportz League

Laugh out loud humor is guaranteed when the Spring Woods High School Safari Players retell a famous television series and turn up the funny knob. The troupe’s Law and Order, Fairy Tale Unit will be staged at the high school on Oct. 17-19, 7 p.m. nightly, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee also scheduled on Oct. 19.

Here’s the Law and Order, Fairy Tale Unit story line, which will be familiar to regular TV series viewers: “In the Fairy Tale criminal justice system, the characters from fairy tales and nursery rhymes are represented by two separate, yet equally ridiculous, groups: The Fairy Tale police who investigate fairy tale crime and the fairy tale district attorneys who investigate fairy tale offenders. These are their stories.”

The company will also present an evening of song, dance and theater performed by the Spring Woods High School Safari Players on Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. This show will also be held at the high school. For details and ticketing information, please visit the Spring Woods High School Safari Players website.

The high school also supports the ComedySportz High School League. All home “matches” are held at 7 p.m. in the Spring Woods High mini-auditorium. Fall season home matches are being held Oct. 25 (Spring Woods HS vs. Alumni) and Nov. 8 (Spring Woods HS vs. Westside and Katy). For full schedule and details, please visit the website

The cast of Urinetown: The Musical

Memorial High School – Urinetown: The Musical

Memorial High’s theatrical theme for the year ahead is “Just Add Water.” The season will open Oct. 17-19 with 7 p.m. performances of Urinetown: The Musical. This first production is set in a fictional future where a terrible 20-year drought has crippled a city’s water supplies. Residents, as a result, must use the public pay-per-use amenities owned and operated by the Urine Good Company, according to the high school. The fun production has been described as “a hilarious comedic tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution!”

Memorial High’s student performers will next present Singin’ in the Rain in January. For details on all Memorial High offerings, please visit their website.

Westchester Academy for International Studies – James and the Giant Peach

Westchester Academy will present James and the Giant Peach at 7 p.m. nightly on Nov. 8-9 and Nov. 14-15. Based on the popular classic children’s novel written by Roald Dahl, this production is a delightful, offbeat adaptation of the book, following a young boy and his insect friends on a journey across the ocean.
