For girls: Expanding Your Horizons in science & mathematics


Figurative sculptor Bridgette Mongeon will be keynote speaker for the upcoming 27th Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) Conference at Spring Forest Middle School. The conference will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23.  

Conference registration will open on Jan. 7 for girls in grades 6-8. Spring Forest Middle School is located at 14240 Memorial Drive.

A master sculptor with more than 20 years of experience, Mongeon is known for several public sculptures, including the Prairie View A&M University’s panther mascot and the Grambling State University tiger mascot. Her personal portraits include musicians and singers B.B. King and Willie Nelson, among others.

Mongeon writes and often lectures about the arts, technology and marketing in the arts, and holds a master’s degree in fine arts in combining 3D technology and fine arts from Goddard College.

The EYH Conference at Spring Forest Middle is sponsored by the American Association of University Women, West Harris County Branch. Sessions are designed to help motivate girls to:

  • Pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • Take math and science courses to prepare for careers in STEM professions
  • Become innovative and creative thinkers ready to meet 21st century challenges
