Future-ready and Empathetic: Audrey Carlisle

T-2-4 Goal

Audrey has a dream of becoming a travel doctor in the field of pediatric anesthesiology. “I will have the opportunity to learn about others’ needs around the world and how communities support themselves,” she said.

Academic Highlight

After helping a fellow student she didn’t know work through a personal crisis using a calm, caring conversation, Audrey realized how much people simply need someone to talk to. “This realization led me to my IB Expo project, creating an advocacy program that shares others’ struggles and coping mechanisms so no one feels alone,” she said.

Core Characteristic

Audrey sees herself as empathetic. “Noticing others’ needs instead of focusing only on yourself allows us to expand our perspectives and find new courses of action. Compassion and empathy help us build strong connections and serve as positive reinforcements, something this generation truly needs,” said Audrey.

Programs & Activities

Audrey is the vice president of the Interact Club at Westchester Academy for International Studies and serves as treasurer for the school’s student council. Outside of school, she was named Miss 2025 Community Service in the Viet Cultural Fest of Houston pageant. “I get the chance to work alongside organizations across Houston, which has opened my eyes to global and local issues,” said Audrey.

Favorite Staff Member at WAIS

Mrs. Johnson, the Communities in Schools (CIS) program representative at WAIS, has been an impactful role model for Audrey, helping her become a thoughtful and empathetic listener for fellow students. “I’ve been able to learn how Mrs. Johnson uses her role to support and mediate students’ challenges,” said Audrey.

“Caring for others is one thing, but listening to them is what leads to real change,” Audrey said. “Mrs. Johnson inspired me to become someone at school others feel comfortable talking to, while also helping me learn how to manage my own emotions.”

Audrey also notes that her school has “amazing teachers who make my everyday life more interesting and fun.”

What She Loves About Her School

Audrey appreciates how students and staff come together to care for one another at WAIS. As a Choice Program, the school brings together students from across the district, creating a culture rooted in shared experiences and mutual respect. Audrey sees students engaging in regular check-ins and sharing personal stories. “This makes the biggest difference at our school because of how diverse we are and how each of our stories continues to grow at Westchester,” she said.

She especially enjoys volunteering for events and activities around campus and values opportunities to support her peers. “These experiences have helped me learn how to connect and build relationships,” she added.

Thank you, Audrey, for exemplifying the Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate through empathy, leadership, and service.
