GenTX Month features career options for Spring Branch ISD students

“What do YOU want to be when you grow up?”

Students in Spring Branch ISD are learning how they might answer this question with a wider variety of career possibilities during November’s GenTX Month. Each year, the Texas High Education Coordinating Board encourages school districts to use this month to focus on helping students develop post-secondary plans starting as early as elementary school.

What’s happening in Spring Branch ISD during GenTX Month?

With a concentration of events happening during GenTX Week, Nov. 15-19, students can participate in various activities all month long. Including:
1.    Classroom lessons about numerous careers
2.    Guest speakers from a variety of professions
3.    Spotlights on colleges
4.    Hallway displays about career pathways
5.    Teachers sharing their professional journeys
6.    Trivia contest with college, military, and technical school questions
7.    Visits from college and technical school representatives

College and Career information via Zoom

Families and students from the class of 2022 can register for the Nov. 16 GenTX Zoom session, a FAFSA/TASFA Workshop, taking place from 6-8 p.m. This session will provide guidance and assistance to complete the federal or state financial aid forms in prepartation for fall 2022 college admissions.

GenTX Zoom sessions, Student U’s, held earlier this month include a Military Roundtable and a Let’s Get Technical session about careers in the technology field. Recordings of the sessions can be viewed here.

A continuous focus

In Spring Branch ISD, the GenTX campaign aligns with a year-round goal called Spring Branch T-2-4, which aims for every student to attain a technical certificate military training, or a two-year or four-year degree. This goal guides district teachers, schools and leaders as they work to shape the future of students, families and ultimately, the larger community.
