Grand Opening of Rebuilt Landrum Middle School is Thursday

Sept. 8, 2021 – Spring Branch ISD will celebrate the official grand opening of the rebuilt Landrum Middle School, the first three-story middle school in the district’s history, at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9.

The brand-new, 238,215 square-foot building was built with funds from the $898 million 2017 Bond, which was approved by 80 percent of Spring Branch ISD voters in November 2017. The three-story design eliminated the need to relocate students from the old building during construction and helped the district deliver the new school building on time.

The school, located at 2200 Ridgecrest in Houston, is the district’s first new middle school building since 1973 and it replaces a one-story building built in 1956.

The new building has a three-story library media space, which learning is centered around. There are two competition gyms on the second floor, and the weight room, locker rooms and athletic offices are on the first floor.

All classrooms receive natural light and are equipped with flexible furniture and active walls. Collaborative areas adjacent to the classrooms have flexible furniture and active walls to support learning outside of the classrooms, for individual use or multi class use. The school has a 600-seat auditorium, two courtyards for outdoor learning and socializing, two play fields, a running track and sports courts.

Superintendent Jennifer Blaine will bring welcoming remarks Thursday, as will Board of Trustees President Chris Gonzales. The ceremony also will feature a musical presentation by the Landrum Varsity Band and Northbrook High School Band members who are Landrum alums.

Houston City Council member Amy Peck will make remarks, as will Judge Michael Landrum, son of the school’s namesake, former SBISD Superintendent H.M. Landrum, and current principal Roy Moore.

Following a musical performance by the Landrum/KIPP Courage Varsity Orchestra, a ribbon-cutting will be held and tours of the building will be given.
