Dr. HP Hyder III named Community Superintendent for Secondary

Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is proud to announce that Dr. HP Hyder III has been named the district’s new Community Superintendent for Secondary Schools.

With 28 years of experience across four Texas school districts, including Spring Branch ISD (SBISD), Hyder brings a deep understanding of leadership, school improvement, and student success to the role.

His career includes service as a middle school math teacher, assistant principal, and principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, most recently serving as principal of Northbrook High School (NHS).

During his tenure at Northbrook, the school successfully launched its RISE College Academy program, with the first cohort graduating this year earning both an associate degree and high school diploma.

The cohort also earned more than $1.5 million in scholarships, while families realized an estimated $2.5 million in college tuition savings through earned college credit and associate degrees prior to graduation.

Dr. Hyder was recognized as SBISD Secondary Principal of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year.

For Dr; Hyder, the opportunity to serve as Community Superintendent represents a long-held professional goal rooted in supporting schools and school leaders.

“The role of Community Superintendent is something I’ve aspired to since I was a first-year assistant principal,” Dr. Hyder shared. “Early in my career, I saw the impact strong district leadership could have on a campus, and I knew I wanted the opportunity to support schools in that way.”

That vision intentionally shaped his leadership journey, leading him to seek experiences across all grade levels to better understand the full K-12 student experience and what students need to graduate future ready.

“What draws me most to this role is the opportunity to support and partner with principals in the important work happening on campuses,” he said. “I understand how valuable it is for leaders to have someone who will listen, problem-solve, and help move the work forward.”

After six years serving in SBISD, Dr. Hyder says he has developed a strong connection to the district and its community and is excited to continue supporting students, staff, and families in this new leadership role.

Dr. Hyder’s immediate priorities include building relationships and trust, gaining a deep understanding of each campus’s needs, and maintaining a visible presence in schools and throughout the community.

“I believe strong systems, high expectations, and meaningful relationships work together,” he said. “My approach balances accountability and support to help school communities move forward successfully.”

When reflecting on what students need most during their middle and high school years, Dr. Hyder emphasized the importance of access, advocacy, structure, and support.

“Students need more than instruction,” he said. “They need adults who relentlessly believe in their potential. When those elements align, students are empowered to lead successful lives beyond graduation.”

As he steps into the role, Dr. Hyder shared a message of partnership and commitment with the SBISD community.

“I am truly excited and honored to serve the Spring Branch ISD community in this new role,” he said. “Preparing students for success is a shared responsibility across all grade levels, campuses, and departments, and I look forward to supporting our schools in ensuring Every Child receives the opportunities, encouragement, and support they need along the way.”

“Most importantly,” he added, “I want our students, families, and staff to know that I am here to listen, collaborate, and support as we continue the important work of helping Every Child thrive.”
