Important information for families of in-person learners

(Spanish)

Dear SBISD Families of In-Person Learners,

As outlined in the message I sent earlier this morning, we are pleased to announce that SBISD will enact the LearnSBISD Plan for students whose families have chosen in-person learning on Tuesday, September 8.

Please take time to read this message thoroughly; it includes three important topics pertaining to the LearnSBISD plan and the return to in-person learning for families who have selected this option.

  • Forms Required for students returning in-person due Friday, Sept. 4
  • September 8-11 schedule for students returning in-person
  • Required daily health screener

Additional Required Forms for Parent/Guardian Signature

To keep our schools open for in-person instruction, we need everyone’s cooperation.  The medical community consistently emphasizes that all families and employees take health protocols seriously.  Therefore, SBISD will require daily health screeners, universal mask wearing, social distancing when possible, and regular handwashing and use of hand sanitizer. Mask-wearing is mandatory for all employees and students and will be enforced.

To affirm your commitment, SBISD requires families to complete two new forms that have been added as of August 28:

  • In-person Parent Acknowledgement Form
  • Mask Acknowledgement Form

Both forms must be completed prior to any student returning for in-person instruction. Forms may be completed in Skyward Family Access. They also are available here.
If you need additional assistance, please contact your school.

Staggered Start for September 8-11

Because health and safety protocols are critically important for the safe return to school and for mitigating the risk of COVID-19, in-person learners will return to our campuses September 8-11 as follows.

Elementary Campuses: Every elementary campus will have a specific plan for arrival the week of September 8 and will communicate directly with families who have chosen in-person learning. These plans enable students and staff time to practice arrivals with social distancing, temperature checks before entering the classroom, and safe hygiene protocols. Departure will follow a similar process based on campus COVID-19 plans. Your principal will provide specific information for your school early this week.

Secondary Campuses:  Middle and high school students will return on a hybrid schedule for the week of Sept. 8. Bringing smaller numbers of students back enables staff and students time to review and practice required health and safety protocols, hallway flow, meal protocols and review of daily health screeners.

  • Tuesday, Sept 8 and Thursday, Sept 10:
    • Students with last names A-L attend school in-person
    • Students with last names M-Z continue learning online
  • Wednesday, Sept 9 and Friday, Sept. 11:
    • Students with last names M-Z attend school in-person
    • Students last name A-L continue learning online
Middle and High School Staggered Schedule

Look for specific details from your campus principal early this week.  Beginning on September 14, all in-person learning students will follow their regular daily schedule.

Self-Contained Special Education:
The following self-contained special education programs for families who selected in-person learning will begin daily in-person instruction Tuesday, Sept. 8, at their assigned campus:

  • AABLE, AB, AIM, APPLE, APT, CUBS, ECSE, Life Skills, Medically Fragile, PASS, TOPS

Required Health Screener

All students and employees must complete a DAILY health screener before coming to school or work. We cannot over-emphasize the importance of keeping your child home if he or she is sick, displays symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness, or has been in direct, prolonged physical contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19.

The district has developed an easy-to-use app that will be linked from the home page of the district website. Parents will complete this daily BEFORE elementary and middle school students leave for school. High school students are authorized to complete the form for themselves and will complete this daily BEFORE arriving on campus. The health screener APP will be activated this coming week, and families of in-person learners are encouraged to practice using the APP on Thursday and Friday. Look for more information this week.

All students will have their temperatures checked by their first period teacher.

We all have a role

We cannot emphasize enough your responsibility to do your part to keep our community and our schools safe from COVID-19. Please help us by abiding by public health best practice protocols. Wear your masks whenever out or among individuals beyond your immediate family, keep social distance, wash your hands often, and avoid large gatherings. Most importantly, please self-isolate away from others, even your family members, if you think you are ill or show symptoms of COVID-19.

Please watch our health and safety videos here.

Our Shared Commitment

Every SBISD employee is committed to GO BEYOND to ensure a great learning experience for your children with the supports you need and expect.

SBISD takes seriously our responsibility for public health as well as our students’ well-being. We believe our LearnSBISD health and safety protocols are robust, but they are only as good as everyone’s dedication to following them.

Keeping our schools open for in-person learning will only happen based on everyone’s commitment to health and safety. Thanks for doing your part.

Our Collective Greatness core value– leveraging each individual’s personal strengths to achieve challenging goals – has never been more important.

I know we can do this!

Sincerely,
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
