Dear SBISD Community,
While we may be out for Spring Break, our legislature remains in session. Much has been happening this week, specifically around the future of public education and school finance reform.
Yesterday and again today, I testified before the House Public Education Committee about the potential impact on Spring Branch ISD of House Bill 3, the school finance bill, as well as other proposed legislation. I shared SBISD’s support for various aspects of the school finance bill including reducing the state’s reliance on recapture, fully funding PreK, increasing funds for our students of poverty and English Learners, funding Career and Technical Education in grades 6-8, and funding post-secondary assessments such as SAT/ACT for all students. I also shared our appreciation for the work of the School Finance Commission and the Texas House to address school finance in Texas.
The Committee will consider yesterday’s testimony before sending a final House proposal to the Senate for reconciliation with the Senate’s proposed public education plan, which takes a different approach to school finance reform.
Please continue to monitor news out of Austin and the 86th Legislative Session and let your voice be heard on behalf of the children and staff of Spring Branch ISD.
Enjoy the rest of Spring Break - see you next week!
