The School Zone: News

Let's go Back to School

Back to school in 3..2..1..

It’s time to go back to school! All SBISD students start school on Monday, August 24 with online distance learning.

This 2020-21 school year, our promise to you is to GO BEYOND!

Distance Learning Toolkit

SBISD has created a robust Distance Learning Toolkit designed to assist families, caregivers and students in this transition to distance learning. Containing a collection of tutorials and resources, our toolkit is a one-stop resource for information.

For more videos, including what a distance learning day looks like, itslearning basics, Chromebook 101 and more, visit SBISD's Distance Learning Toolkit.

Many troubleshooting tips, resources for help with common issues, how-to videos and additional supports are included in the Distance Learning Toolkit.

The district technology team has spent weeks testing our network along with Zoom capabilities and feel confident that our technology is in strong, working order. However, we know issues can and do happen, sometimes beyond our control. SBISD has backup plans in place and your child’s teacher will remind you and your student(s) of what to do in the event of a technology-related issue in the weeks ahead.

Should you have WiFi issues, please be reminded that all SBISD PreK Centers and secondary campuses have property line-to-property-line district WiFi access. The district will also have WiFi-equipped buses stationed outside Woodview, Hollibrook, Spring Shadows, Ridgecrest and Spring Branch Elementary Schools. Several additional sites within the community are also being identified.

Additional technology support can also be found by contacting the SBISD Help Desk at 713.251.TECH (8324), Mon – Fri: 7am to 10pm and Sat -Sun: 9am to 10pm.

From August 24 through September 4, all SBISD students with a district ID badge or enrollment letter are eligible to pick up Grab and Go Meals at one of the 10 campus curbside locations. Distributions will take place 4-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Students do not need to accompany parents for meal pick-up but will need to bring either their student ID number or the letter from Child Nutrition Services to show proof of SBISD enrollment. Payments can be made via School Cafe. Starting September 8, only students in the distance learning option will be eligible for Grab and Go Meals.

School immunization requirements are still in effect for the 2020-2021 school year regardless of whether the student has opted for distance learning or in-person instruction. All students must be up-to-date, in the process of receiving or have a valid exemption on file when school starts on Monday, August 24. Visit the SBISD website for low-cost options.
