SBISD School Bell Award winner, Kimberly Moore of Memorial Middle School, with PTA Council Awards Chair, Tammy Hampton
A Memorial Middle School health teacher who also coaches received the Council of PTAs School Bell Award during the annual Founders’ Day Dinner held earlier this year.
The Council’s annual top recognition was issued to a surprised Kimberly Moore during a dinner held at Stratford High. The coach was among 23 teachers, librarians, aides, cafeteria employees, custodians, and other staff members nominated for the School Bell Award.

“Kimberly Moore’s dedication to the health and well-being of the students and staff of Memorial Middle School is only surpassed by that for her own family. Her passion for developing well-rounded future leaders is guiding MMS into the next 50 years of excellence,” Council of PTAs Awards Chair Tammy Hampton said after the award announcement. Awards were issued Feb. 13 at the well-attended dinner.
Mrs. Moore has served 22 years at Memorial Middle in several roles: health teacher; year-round coach; health fitness teacher; Campus Improvement Team (CIT) member; and team leader/department chair.
During her tenure, Memorial Middle Principal Ellen Green noted in a campus nomination that Mrs. Moore’s accomplishments are many.
Most recently, she helped initiate a successful program for eighth-graders focused on safe social media use with judicial and District Attorney’s Office officials, and researched social emotional learning programs while serving on the Campus School Health Advisory Council (CSHAC).
She is a trained Mindful Classroom teacher, and has addressed immediate needs at Memorial Middle by providing training about vaping, social media and bullying issues to the CIT and PTA groups. She also helped provide mental health trainings to Memorial Middle faculty and staff.
When Hurricane Harvey hit several years ago, Mrs. Moore organized a seasonal relief project with the National Junior Honor Society students for families who faced flooding. Other efforts range from fundraisers for childhood cancer to food pantry drives, and the collection of food, clothing and basic hygiene items for families in need.
“Her caring and compassion for all students is unsurpassed. She is one of the hardest working women around!” exclaimed the event awards chair, Mrs. Hampton.
Sponsored by the Spring Branch ISD Council of PTAs, the annual Founders Day dinner honors and recognizes parent volunteers who serve on campus or district PTA organizations, parents who have served campus PTAs for many years, and local educators and staff nominated for a high-level School Bell Award.
Locally, the SBISD Council of PTAs represents thousands of parents and families. It is an active grassroots group supporting the ongoing vitality and strength of SBISD schools.
Founders Day is celebrated in memory of a February 1897 meeting held in Washington, D.C., a first-ever meeting of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in the United States.
The Feb. 13 dinner included remarks by SBISD Board of Trustees President Pam Goodson. The program included remarks by SBISD Council of PTAs leaders Bibbin Gill, president; Karen Ross, event co-chair; and Tammy Hampton, awards chair.
Dinner co-chairs were Michelle Majewski, Karen Ross and Kim Woods.
The Founders Day Dinner was made possible through support from campus and local business groups. These included Stratford High School; Nothing Bundt Cakes; Hudella Real Estate; First Community Credit Union; Chick-fil-A, Silber location; and George’s Pastaria.
