In the rhythmic world of athletics at Westchester Academy for International Studies (WAIS), one student shines brightly for her exceptional discipline, passion, and unwavering dedication.

Allow us to introduce Ava Carpenter, a remarkable dancer whose journey epitomizes the transformative power of commitment and resilience.

Ava's journey in dance began in sixth grade when she decided to join the Westchester Dance Team after being captivated by their summer clinic. Since then, she has embraced the art form with zeal, honing her skills and leaving an indelible mark on the team.

Olivia Henry, Ava's coach, describes her as an inspiration to her teammates and herself, highlighting Ava's discipline, passion, and resilience. "Ava approaches any obstacle with resilience and grace," Coach Henry affirms. "The Westchester Dance Team wouldn’t be the same without her."

For Ava, the true joy of participating in dance at WAIS lies in the camaraderie and growth experienced with her teammates.

"What I like most about being on the Westchester Dance Team is seeing how much I can improve every practice and making memories with all of the girls on the team," she shares.

Through her involvement in dance, Ava has developed essential Core Characteristics, becoming a Resourceful Problem-solver and a Communicator and Collaborator. She credits her coach for pushing her beyond her limits and motivating her to achieve her goals both on and off the dance floor.

Reflecting on her favorite moments, Ava cherishes the feeling of accomplishment after performing a routine to the best of her ability. "It feels so good to know that you accomplished all of your goals and when you know that you worked really hard to get to where you are," she reflects.

Participating in dance has equipped Ava with valuable life skills, including self-discipline and leadership, which she believes will prepare her for the future.

As an officer on the Westchester Dance Team, she has embraced the role of a leader and learned invaluable lessons about teamwork and perseverance.

Looking ahead, Ava plans to continue her journey in dance throughout high school, fueled by her passion for the art form and the invaluable lessons it has taught her. "I plan to continue dancing in high school because it has taught me so much, and it really has become a passion of mine," she affirms.
