The grand opening of Memorial Drive Elementary (MDE) School, a highlight of the 2017 Bond Program, attracted an enthusiastic crowd that showcased community spirit. Attendees were greeted by the spirited cheers of the Memorial High School Markettes, and the celebration was a heartfelt tribute to the Ponies and their exciting new school home.

On September 24, Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) proudly unveiled the new Memorial Drive Elementary, marking a milestone in its dedication to enhancing district educational facilities.

The festivities commenced with a warm welcome from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Blaine, who set an inspiring tone for the celebration. Following her introduction, Boy Scout Troop 641, led by Assistant Scoutmaster Robert Brandt, conducted a flag ceremony. A highlight of the event was a captivating performance of “Big Dreams” by the Memorial Drive Elementary 4th Grade Choir, directed by Gina Dixon.

Lisa Alpe, president of the SBISD Board of Trustees, emphasized the community's investment in education during her remarks. A special resolution recognizing the significance of the new facility was presented by Melissa DeAyala on behalf of State Representative Mano DeAyala, District 133.

Gratitude was expressed by teachers Stacey Lincecum, Brandi Ratliff, and Amy Lindsay, alongside PTA President Christine Williamson, who acknowledged the collaborative efforts that made the new school a reality. Principal Thayer Hutcheson then shared her insights on the exciting opportunities this modern, 94,850-square-foot facility will offer students.

"I would like to express my gratitude to our wonderful students and families performing today. You are the spirit of Memorial Drive Elementary, and this new space is for you," said Principal Hutcheson. "I can’t wait to see the amazing things you will accomplish here. Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. Home is where the Ponies are, and these Ponies are so happy in their new home."

The celebration culminated in a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees enjoyed refreshments and tours of the schoo's innovative learning spaces designed to foster collaboration and creativity.

Special thanks were extended to the students who participated, including MDE Patrols and the Memorial High School Markettes.
