Middle schools team up to host volleyball clinic for future players

On Friday, September 26, from 4:30–6:30 p.m., the 7th and 8th grade volleyball programs at Spring Branch Middle (SBMS), Spring Oaks Middle (SOMS), and Spring Woods Middle (SWMS) will join together to host a special clinic for 5th and 6th grade students at SBMS.

The clinic, organized by Coach Chenique Whitney, gives younger athletes a chance to learn the game in a fun, supportive setting while connecting with older students who are already part of their middle school volleyball programs.

During the clinic, 7th and 8th grade volleyball players from SBMS, SOMS, and SWMS will serve as coaches, leading stations where participants rotate through 15-minute skill sessions on passing, serving, setting, and teamwork. The older athletes will demonstrate drills, provide one-on-one guidance, and share what it’s like to play volleyball at the middle school level.

The event also allows 7th and 8th graders to earn service hours while developing leadership skills by mentoring their younger peers. Coaches from all three campuses will be present to supervise and support the stations.

“This clinic is about more than skills—it’s about building relationships across campuses and showing our younger students the excitement of middle school volleyball,” said Coach Whitney.

We thank these 7th and 8th grade student-athletes for demonstrating leadership and living out the Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate through their mentorship at this clinic. Special thanks to Coach Chenique Whitney and the SBMS Volleyball coaching staff for organizing and leading this event.
