Miguel Brito: Showing up, listening and lifting others

In this season of celebration, Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) extends its sincere thanks to the mentors, volunteers, and champions who show up for students every day. Their impact is real. Their presence matters.

At Edgewood Elementary (EWE), parent volunteer and PTA President Miguel Brito exemplifies what it means to lead with heart. Brito prioritizing investing time, care, and leadership to strengthen the school community and support student success.

Born and raised in Spring Branch and one of eight children, Brito learned early what it meant to struggle and what it meant to persevere. He now channels those lessons into service at Edgewood, where he supports students, families and staff and serves as a steady, encouraging presence for his 11-year-old daughter and her classmates.

“I truly do love to help everyone who needs help,” Brito said. “All you have to do is ask, and I’ll be there.”

A mentor who shows up every day

For Brito, motivation comes from knowing he has the chance to change a child’s life whether that moment comes today, next week or years from now. And nothing brings that purpose into sharper focus than his daughter watching as he serves.

“What motivates me is seeing her face and knowing her dad is doing something good,” he said. “I want her to see that helping others matters.”

Whether he is joining field trips, sharing a lunch period, greeting students in the hallway or organizing PTA events, Brito sees how even small interactions create big moments.

“You can see it impacts them,” he said. “Even a few seconds of being noticed can make a difference.”

A community that cares

Brito describes Edgewood’s teachers and staff as “spectacular and helpful.” He also notes how welcomed he feels the moment he walks through the door. His goal is simple: show families that they belong — and that their involvement matters.

“I don’t look at myself as a bright spot,” Brito said. “It’s just letting other parents know that if someone like me can do it, they can too.”

Leading with honesty, heart and lived experience

Brito’s mentorship comes from a deeply personal place. Growing up, he faced challenges no child should have to navigate, food insecurity, unstable housing and the pressure of learning things “the hard way.” Today, he uses those experiences to support students who may be facing their own obstacles.

“I’m trying to teach these kids from my life lessons what not to do, and what to expect if they go down the wrong road instead of the right one,” he said.

He follows a simple set of values: be honest, be caring and meet families where they are. Above all, Brito wants students to grow into young people with strong morals and a sense of responsibility for their future.

Why he chooses Spring Branch ISD

For Brito, SBISD’s mission resonates deeply, especially that every student is supported in their T-2-4 journey.

“What makes me proud to be part of SBISD is knowing this district has each other’s backs,” he said.

His message to the community

“The one message I would share is to be more loving to each other, and know that God will provide. All you have to do is have faith and pray.”

The legacy he hopes to leave

Brito is clear about the impact he wants to make.

“I hope to change lives whether it’s a kid’s life or a parent’s life,” he said.

In SBISD, people who serve matter. They help students build meaningful connections, explore future careers, and see new possibilities. They support our mission and our vision for T-2-4 for Every Child. Most of all, they remind us that the strongest communities are built by people who show up and give from the heart.

Miguel Brito is one of those people.
