Moments that matter across SBISD

This month’s Regular Board Meeting highlighted the strength of SBISD in a real and visible way. From Gold distinction on the AP School Honor Roll to recognition as a CTE District of Distinction, to statewide honors in literacy and procurement, and even acts of heroism, these moments reflect a district delivering for Every Child at every level.

Police Officer Luis Yurnet received the IAMSBISD Award after responding to a student experiencing a choking emergency at Landrum Middle School (LMS). His quick action and use of the Heimlich maneuver helped save a student’s life and reflect the level of care, urgency, and commitment we see across SBISD every day.

We celebrated All-State selections in band, choir, and orchestra, along with a Texas Theatre Scholar, reflecting the strength and consistency of our fine arts programs.

We also honored Spring Branch Academic Institute (SBAI) senior Jaeho Lee, a 2026 Regeneron Science Talent Search finalist selected from more than 2,600 students nationwide. His advanced mathematical research places him among the top young scholars in the country.

In addition, we recognized the success of our first Spanish Spelling Bee. Three SBISD students advanced to the regional finals, with Woodview Elementary (WVE) fourth grader Camila Rios earning second place at Region 4 and advancing to the state competition.

We honored Dr. Alana Morris for her leadership in literacy and her recognition as a CREST Literacy Legacy Award recipient. Over more than three decades in education, including 15 years in SBISD, her work has strengthened instruction, supported educators, and made a lasting impact on student learning across the district.

Across our campuses and departments, the results are clear:

  • Memorial High School (MHS) and Stratford High School (SHS) earned Gold distinction on the AP School Honor Roll. Memorial met gold standards in college culture and platinum in both college credit and college optimization. Stratford earned gold in college culture and college credit, and platinum in college optimization, marking its first time at the Gold level
  • Each year, Children at Risk evaluates schools across Texas based on student achievement, growth, and overall performance, identifying those that are going above and beyond for their students. Memorial Drive Elementary ranked second in the Houston area and third in the state, reflecting exceptional outcomes and a strong learning environment for students. SBAI also earned top distinctions, with its middle school ranked second in the Houston area and fifth in the state, and its elementary program ranking among the top schools in the region.

  • SBISD was named a CTE District of Distinction for the third consecutive year, one of only 67 districts in Texas recognized for leadership, innovation, and workforce readiness opportunities for students

  • Procurement Services earned the TASBO Award of Merit for the 14th consecutive year, recognizing the highest standards in purchasing practices and operational excellence

Finally, as part of our continued focus on reaching current and future families, the Board also viewed our new Pre-K ad, highlighting the impact of early learning and the strong start SBISD provides from the very beginning. https://www.springbranchisd.com/schools/early-childhood

These are the moments that matter. They reflect who we are as a district and the impact we continue to make together.
