My SBISD Story: Kristy Chavis

A Journey of Service and Empowerment

Education has been more than a career choice for me; it has been an intrinsic part of my life and identity.

From the early days of playing school during summer vacations to diligently taking extra papers home from my teachers, my love for teaching and learning has been a constant thread in my life.

As a child, I enjoyed setting up mock classrooms and teaching my cousins. This early passion naturally led me to pursue a career in education. My journey has been shaped by a series of meaningful experiences, each reinforcing my commitment to nurturing and guiding others.

At age 12, I embarked on a simple yet profound initiative with my best friend: We organized a group in our neighborhood to assist girls with their hair, clothes, and nails.

This endeavor, driven by a desire to help and uplift others, laid the foundation for my future aspirations. Attending Sam Houston State University and majoring in education felt like a natural progression, aligning perfectly with my longstanding passion.

My professional journey has taken me to two distinct educational environments, each enriching my understanding and approach to education. At my previous district, I spent five years in an administrative role, gaining invaluable insights into the workings of educational institutions. Despite this experience, my heart always yearned to return to my first love—counseling.

The transition to Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) has been a significant milestone in my career, offering me the opportunity to rekindle my passion for counseling while also embracing the role of a servant leader within the community. SBISD represents a new chapter in my career, one filled with promise and excitement.

My vision is to make a meaningful impact by empowering and educating students in this community. I am committed to supporting SBISD’s T-2-4 vision, which aims to enhance the educational experiences of students by empowering counselors to play a pivotal role in their development. I firmly believe in the district’s Core Values and its commitment to providing Every Child with the opportunity for success.

This alignment with the district’s mission further fuels my dedication to the role.As a servant leader, my motivation stems from a deep-seated desire to help others and contribute positively to their lives.

This intrinsic motivation drives me to support, guide, and uplift those around me. Being part of the SBISD family is an honor, and I am eager to engage with this vibrant community.

This year, I look forward to collaborating with fellow educators, students, and families to create a supportive and empowering educational environment. I am excited to contribute to the SBISD community and make a lasting impact through my work.

Being a part of this district aligns perfectly with my mission as a servant leader, and I am eager to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
