National CTE Month: Exploring the “T” in T-2-4

Spring Branch ISD is committed to helping Every Child prepare for success after high school. Now more than ever, students need a broad education and skillset to ensure rewarding, long-term careers. Because of SBISD’s commitment to T-2-4, our students don’t have to choose between the academic courses needed for college and a career or technical training.

SBISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programming – the “T” in our T-2-4 Goal – offers Every Child an opportunity to explore and prepare for careers, starting as early as elementary school!

Robust CTE Areas of Study allow our students to explore career options and experience both college preparation and workforce skills development through personalized education planning.

The best part? Our CTE educators are there every step of the way to ensure students are on track for both high school graduation and post-secondary success.

These industry and career professionals are dedicated to their areas of expertise and driven to grown future leaders in their field. In partnership with area business and higher education organizations, they ensure students have the experiences and networking opportunities needed to thrive in a modern workforce.

Planning for CTE in SBISD

SBISD’s CTE Areas of Study are organized by career clusters, which includes groupings of occupations and industries. The clusters are designed to focus on the knowledge and skills students need to be successful, and clusters lead to defined career pathways. Each pathway focuses on an area of interest and serves as the foundation of an educational plan designed to ensure students achieve their goals.

Students enrolled in CTE programs have a higher rate of high school graduation

The U.S. Department of Education reports that students enrolled in CTE programs have a high school graduation rate of more than 90 percent, compared to the average national freshman graduation rate of 75 percent. Additionally, 70 percent of students concentrating in CTE areas stayed in post-secondary education or transferred to a four-year degree program.
