National Parent Involvement Day is Nov. 15.

National Parent Involvement Day is Thurs., Nov. 15.

National Parent Involvement Day provides a yearly opportunity for schools and families to honor and highlight the powerful contributions parents and caregivers provide at school and home to support student success. Research shows that kids who have parents or family members involved in their school do better academically.

Families can get involved and support their children by:

  • Providing care, safety, proper nutrition, and sleep
  • Modeling a positive attitude toward school and learning
  • Helping children learn through family activities
  • Listening and talking with school staff
  • Volunteering in schools
  • Joining activities that support students - such as Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs), booster clubs, service groups, and business partnerships.
Parental involvement isn’t confined to just one day – it’s an ongoing process that takes place all year long. Below are some ideas on how you can get involved in your student’s learning on parent involvement day, or any day of the year.
  • Sign up for school and district news.
  • Explore the STUDENTS & FAMILIES section of the SBISD website.
  • Join your school’s PTA.
  • Schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher.
  • Volunteer at your school.
  • Read with your child at home.
  • Explore SBISD’s Choice Options for learning. There may be a specialized program that’s perfect for your child!
  • Start planning for the future! Attend one of our informative Parent U learning opportunities.

Visit the EMPOWERED & EQUIPPED section of the SBISD website to access a listing of support resources for parents and families. The SBISD Community Relations Division thanks families for their support, and encourages them to learn more about how to get involved at their child's school in recognition of National Parent Involvement Day on Thurs., Nov 15.
