National School Lunch Week is Oct. 15-19

National School Lunch Week is coordinated by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association (SNA) and is designed to raise awareness about the powerful role good nutrition has on the school day, student learning, and a healthy life.

This year’s School Lunch Week theme is “Level UP!”  This theme encourages students and school nutrition professionals across the country to share what they love most about school lunch programs.

When it comes to food service in SBISD, that love comes in the form of dedicated staff and quality food options for students and families.

“School lunches are healthier than ever, with more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and less fat and sodium,” said SBISD Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Director, Chris Kamradt.

His department serves nearly 30,000 meals every day, or some 5.2 million annually. That’s big business, and CNS does it with no local funding while offering some of the lowest meal prices in the area.

CNS is committed to their role of ensuring all students, regardless of income level, receive nutritious lunches, which follow federal nutrition standards.

“National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents about the services we provide and how our program benefits students and their learning,” said Kamradt.

Listen to SBISD Director of CNS Chris Kamradt talk about his department, and take a look at some impressive stats from his team:
