New Principals 

Antonio Avalos has been named the new principal at Northbrook High School. He has 20 years of experience in education, working most recently as an associate principal at Galena Park High School. Principal Avalos replaces longtime campus leader Randolph Adami, who is the district’s new director of safety and security.  

Lynne Barry is moving from her role as the director at the Spring Branch Academic Institute (SBAI) to the principal role at Meadow Wood Elementary School, where she was an assistant principal earlier in her career. Principal Barry, who has 27 years of education service, replaces Hailey Haynes, who accepted a position in another school district.

Patricia Kassir has been named the new director at Spring Branch Academic Institute (SBAI). The institute, which opened in 2013 at the elementary level, offers personalized instruction for highly gifted identified student groups today in three separate campus settings. Ms. Kassir has 27 years in public and private education. Most recently, she served as SBISD’s coordinator of personalization. She replaces Lynne Barry, who moves to principal duties at Meadow Wood Elementary School.

Greg Little is the new YES Prep at Northbrook High School campus program director. SBISD supports the public charter high school program as part of the longstanding SKY Partnership between SBISD and the YES Prep and KIPP Public Schools systems, which have middle school programs at two district schools. A native of Baltimore, Md., Mr. Little first served as a Teach for America Houston Corps member. He replaces Bryan Reed, who started up the YES Prep at Northbrook High program four years ago. Reed resigned from his post in May.

Recent Principal Appointments (Fall 2018-May 2019)

Spring Branch ISD begins the new school year with several principals who were appointed between Fall 2018 and May 2019, but not publicly recognized. They include the following:

Michele Gabriel now serves as the director of the Lion Lane School for Early Learning (Pre-K). She has 28 years of experience in education, most recently as an assistant principal at Cedar Brook Elementary School. She replaced Sharee Cantrell who is current Pre-K director for the district’s Early Childhood Program.

Vicky Lullo was named principal last fall at Thornwood Elementary School. She has 31 years in public education, most recently serving as Thornwood Elementary’s assistant principal.  She replaced Chyla Weaver, who resigned due to family relocation from the Houston area.

Angel Purdy was named campus director of Cornerstone Academy and Academy of Choice several months ago. She has 26 years of education experience, working most recently as a campus associate principal in Katy ISD. She replaced Jill Wright, who has retired.

Sarah Salas joined Sherwood Elementary School as campus principal in March 2019. She has 22 years of experience in public education, working most recently as the assistant principal at Pine Shadows Elementary School. She replaces Stefanie Spencer, now the principal at Spring Branch Middle School.  

Stefanie Spencer was named as new principal at Spring Branch Middle School in November 2019. She has 23 years of education experience, serving most recently as longtime principal at Sherwood Elementary School. She replaced Bryan Williams, now a Community Superintendent.
