Northbrook High School recently commemorated the induction of its RISE College Academy inaugural class. As the school year draws to a close, this ceremony marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the school's first program cohort.
Against a backdrop of anticipation, Principal HP Hyder extended a warm welcome to attendees, expressing deep pride in the students' accomplishments. The evening served as a tribute to the resilience and commitment to academic excellence exhibited by the 44 Raiders embarking on this transformative journey.
"I am thrilled to welcome 44 Raiders into SBISD's inaugural RISE College Academy cohort," Hyder said. "This opportunity is a true game-changer for our students, promising enduring benefits beyond their tenure at Northbrook High School. I eagerly await witnessing their triumphs throughout and beyond their RISE College Academy journey. This is undeniably a moment of great pride for me as a principal."
With each student formally inducted into the RISE College Academy, the school’s Commons area reverberated with applause and encouragement. The ceremony not only honored the promise of the program but also highlighted the unwavering support and solidarity within Northbrook High School and the broader community.
Houston Community College (HCC) Northwest President, Zachary Hodges, delivered an inspiring message, articulating profound pride in the institution's pivotal role in the program. "As a leader, I am immensely proud. HCC is steadfast in our commitment to serving as the conduit for this cohort's journey towards earning their 4-year degrees from esteemed universities. Our dedication to steering these students towards their aspirations is genuinely exhilarating."
RISE students will earn a total of 60 college credits from HCC and the University of Texas OnRamps dual enrollment courses, graduating with both a high school diploma and an Associates degree. The RISE College Academy aligns with the district's vision of T-2-4 for Every Child, ensuring that students are equipped to pursue, and complete, postsecondary success whether earning a technical certification, a 2- or 4-year degree, or enlisting in the military upon graduation. This commitment to diverse pathways to achievement and fulfillment underscores the essence of the RISE College Academy.
