One mission, Many hands: SBISD Transportation

The sun rises early over the Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) Transportation Center during the summer—and so do the people who keep the district rolling.

While students and teachers enjoy a well-deserved break, a dedicated team of transportation professionals works hard to ensure the district is ready for the first day of school. Their efforts reflect the SBISD commitment to Every child. Every way. Every minute. Every day. From training future drivers to fueling the fleet, this summer’s work is more than maintenance—it’s mission-critical. Let’s meet a few of the people working diligently this summer to be ready for Day One of the 2025–26 school year.

One mission, Many hands

From longtime veterans to recent hires, and from trainers to technicians, Spring Branch ISD’s (SBISD) Transportation Department—more than 200 employees strong during the school year—embodies what it means to serve every student with intention and pride. The summer work may be hot, hard, and often unseen—but it’s indispensable.

“During the summer, there are several tasks that our team handles to prepare for the start of a new year,” said Transportation Director Wendy Hebert. “Buses are cleaned, inspected, and repaired as needed. Our routing team is preparing routes, while our trainers are working with new drivers for next year.”

As the summer weeks progress, the Transportation team continues transporting students attending summer school and preparing for the upcoming school year. The department’s leadership team is organizing professional development sessions to reinforce and re-energize attention to safety and customer service practices for returning and new drivers.

Modeling character

Hebert is especially proud of the strengths her team brings to the job each day—putting safety first, and demonstrating reliability, compassion, teamwork, communication, professionalism, dedication, support, and adaptability.

“I’m truly blessed to work with an amazingly dedicated and loyal group of individuals who come together, no matter the challenge, and get it done,” said Hebert.

This deep sense of commitment is more than just professional for Hebert—it’s also personal.

Family ties

Her daughter is a graduate of Stratford High School, creating a lasting connection to the district that goes beyond her leadership role.

“I get to directly contribute to the same community that shaped her experiences and growth,” said Hebert. “SBISD is also special to me because my many years of service have allowed me to build lasting relationships with colleagues who feel like family.”

Student success

Hebert knows that reliable transportation plays a key role in supporting student attendance and academic success.

“Serving as the Director of Transportation for SBISD means being dedicated to ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of student transportation, while fostering a positive environment for both students and staff,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community by facilitating access to education and supporting the overall well-being of our students.”

Often working behind the scenes in the business of educating the next generation of leaders, Transportation Department employees take their duties seriously.

“The countless hours and hats each employee wears shows true dedication to Every Child,” said Hebert. “The support for students and colleagues is outstanding and reflects their Collaborative Spirit.”

Every Child and Collaborative Spirit are two of the five Core Values the SBISD community identified as foundational to the Spring Branch Way—how we treat one another, what we prioritize, and the guiding principles we live by as members of the SBISD family.

Meaningful Impact

“The strong sense of community and shared commitment to our students creates an environment where we can support one another and make a meaningful impact together,” said Hebert, who is confident the buses will be ready to roll on Day One of the 2025–26 school year.

Thank you, Transportation team, for your dedication to safety and for being the friendly faces our students see first and last each school day.
