#SHEbuildsHouston is unstoppable

Decked out in pink hard hats and vests, 250 Spring Branch ISD middle and high school girls were unstoppable at the #SHEbuildsHouston event on March 21, hosted at the Aldine ISD Campbell Educational Center.

Spring Branch ISD students recently attended #SHEbuildsHouston, an event dedicated to exploring the world of construction. The event was organized by the Construction Career Collaborative (C3) with the help of volunteers from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Houston Chapter, and students were invited to attend.

Despite the heavy rainfall, students, educators, and businesses collaborated on construction demos and activities. Upon arrival, students were split into groups, given customized hard hats, rain slickers, and vests, and visited booths to learn about construction industry leaders in the Houston area. They also had discussions with local experts in this field.

Students enjoyed a full day of construction learning and activity, utilizing tools, safety techniques, and engaging in various hands-on tasks. The experience was immersive, from equipment operation to tile making.

“Spring Branch ISD prioritizes connecting students to industry beyond the classroom as part of their Career and Technical Education focus,” said CTE Director Christina Rice-Imumwen. “ #SHEbuildsHouston is a direct result of the strong relationships cultivated between SBISD and business industry leaders.”
