When students in Spring Branch ISD Title 1 elementary and middle schools walked into their classrooms on the first day, they found their school supplies waiting for them, thanks to a partnership between RBC Capital Markets and Spring Branch Education Foundation (SBEF).

The School Supply Project served 13,603 economically disadvantaged students, one-third of the SBISD student population.

“RBC Capital Markets is proud to partner with SBEF for the 2019 School Supply Project. At RBC, we support programs and initiatives that help people realize their full potential,” said Jay Sartain, RBC managing director and a member of SBEF’s board of directors.

Having the right supplies unlocks opportunities, according to Roy Reyes, Communities in Schools of Houston’s school support manager for Housman Elementary, just one of the schools that benefitted from the partnership.

“This project allows students to show up at school with a smile and positive attitude, ready to learn. Students don’t worry they don’t have the right materials. Everyone gets off on the same foot. Working together with SBEF and the community, we try to remove any and every barrier to learning.”

RBC is the lead sponsor of the 2019 School Supply Project, co-chaired by SBEF volunteers Becky Fenn and Kristi Robishaw. RBC’s donation of $15,000 helped the SBEF provide supplies to all SBISD Title 1 elementary schools, and for the first time, to all Title 1 middle schools also.

SBEF provides a vehicle for donors to make tax-deductible gifts to benefit Spring Branch ISD to enhance the education of its 35,000 students.
