Running for fun… and for a pumpkin

Cedar Brook Elementary hosted its sixth annual Great Pumpkin Fun Run on a fall Saturday morning in October.

On October 19, close to 300 participants, including Cedar Brook students, along with family members and friends, ran about three miles around the school’s campus and that of a neighboring school. Several former students came back to jog with their siblings during the CBE Fun Run, while dozens of spectators cheered on the runners.

“While the day was a bit warm, it is always a fun way to kick off the fall season in a healthy way,” said Courtney Roberts, CBE health fitness teacher.

The run is put on by the CBE Health Fitness department and Campus School Health Advisory Council (CSHAC).

The Spring Woods High School Girls and Boys Cross Country teams volunteered with setting up before the run, led the run, helped during the run with some of the participants who needed a bit of encouragement, as well as with tearing down after the event.

“They were a HUGE help and we loved the Collective Greatness that was shared through this community event,” said Roberts.

The fun run participants picked out a personal pumpkin to take home following the event. They also received Chick-fil-A gift cards, necklaces with fall charms on them, bananas and bottled water, thanks to area sponsors:

  • Chick-Fil-A
  • Fleet Feet Houston
  • Hudella
  • J. Carter Breed Properties
  • HEB
  • New York Bagels and Coffee Shop
  • Valladares Family
  • Always Green Recycling
  • Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church

The Collective Greatness of the Cedar Brook Great Pumpkin Fun Run attracted many neighborhood families who enjoyed the annual fall event and stayed after to play on the Spark Park playground.
