SBISD Board honors Math Star and Summer Reading Rockstars

At the September Board of Trustees meeting, Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) celebrated outstanding student achievements in both mathematics and literacy.

Trustees recognized Frostwood Elementary student David Jung, who was recently named one of only 57 students in Texas to be honored as a National Math Star. This prestigious program identifies mathematically extraordinary second- and third-grade students and provides long-term support to nurture their talents.

David’s selection followed a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process measuring mathematical aptitude, eagerness for STEM exploration, and potential for future growth. Trustees applauded David and his family for this remarkable accomplishment.

The Board also celebrated the district’s Summer Reading Rockstars, top students in the 2025 SBISD Summer Reading Challenge.

Director of Digital Resources and Media Center Support Ashley May introduced 15 students who logged more than 3,300 minutes of summer reading—over 55 hours each. Meadow Wood's Emory Owens led the challenge with 16,635 minutes read, while Stratford High’s Itzyana Vega recorded 14,619 minutes for the top secondary total.

These students exemplify SBISD’s commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning, whether through advanced math achievement or a passion for reading. Trustees congratulated all honorees for their dedication and success.
