SBISD Board of Trustees Highlights End-of-Year Achievements and Honors

(Thank you, SBISD retirees, for your service!)

The Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) Board of Trustees convened for its regular meeting on May 27, 2025, spotlighting a series of end-of-year celebrations that honored exceptional achievements across the district.

The evening began with a heartfelt tribute to SBISD retirees, introduced by Trustee Courtney Anderson. This year’s 88 retirees represent more than 1,826 years of combined service to the district. “These retirees exemplify what it means to lead a life dedicated to Every Child,” Anderson said. “They have positively impacted the lives of thousands of children during their tenure as members of the SBISD family.” Each honoree received a commemorative watch as a token of appreciation for their years of dedication.

Board Vice President Caroline H. Bennett followed with recognition of high school speech and debate students from Memorial, Spring Woods, Stratford, and Westchester Academy for International Studies. These students qualified for state and national competitions during the 2024–25 academic year. The head debate coach at each school introduced their students and spotlighted their achievements.

Next, Trustee Walker Agnew recognized student golfers who competed in the 19th annual First Tee Champions Golf Challenge. Fourth-grade students from six SBISD elementary schools showcased their skills in putting, chipping, pitching, full swing, and running events. “We are thrilled to recognize our students for their talent and hard work,” said Pamela Thompson, assistant director of health and fitness.

In a special recognition for SBISD athletics, Trustee Chris Earnest honored Executive Director of Athletics Paige Hershey, who was recently named the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Jody Conradt Award by the Texas High School Coaches Association. The award recognizes a female coach who has made a lasting impact on the advancement of girls and women in sports. “Coach Hershey pours her heart and soul into our athletics programs and truly models what it means to be a servant leader,” Earnest said.

Trustee Jennifer Hyland continued the recognitions by honoring student athletes, trainers, and coaches who advanced to UIL state-level competition this year. Coach Hershey returned to the podium to introduce the honorees and celebrate the district’s continued excellence in athletics.

The evening concluded with a spotlight on the Stratford and Spring Woods High School Color Guards, both of which qualified for the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) State Championship. Trustee David Slattery led the presentation, joined by Band Directors Chris Yancey and Brandon McNeal, along with Fine Arts and Health Fitness Director Houston Hayes, in recognizing the students’ outstanding performances.
