As Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) kicks off the new school year, we’re excited to continue focus on literacy by further advancing our alignment to the Science of Reading.
SBISD recently hosted an engaging professional development at Landrum Middle School, where over 200 educators came together to explore evidence-based strategies rooted in the Science of Reading. The day was all about equipping teachers with the tools and insights needed to refine classroom practices and elevate reading instruction.
SBISD is deeply committed to the Science of Reading, undertaking substantial investments in educator training and resources for the classroom. This initiative directly supports the district’s priority to improve early literacy education.
The day featured an inspiring keynote from TXReads and hands-on workshops focusing on essential elements of the Science of Reading, like phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Attendees also gained practical tips on optimizing classroom setups and understanding brain function. By the end of the day, educators left feeling energized and ready to implement new strategies throughout the school year.
What This Means for Educators
To effectively implement best practices aligned to the Science of Reading, we know strong support systems are key. This includes providing instructional coaching and high-quality classroom materials. Our collaborative approach ensures all staff are united in helping Every Child become a proficient reader.
What This Means for Students
When teachers are well-prepared, students thrive. A solid foundation in literacy boosts engagement and academic performance, helping students tackle complex texts and concepts. As our students build these crucial skills, they’re better equipped to achieve their T-2-4 goals and future educational and career opportunities.
What This Means for Families
For families, our focus on the Science of Reading means your children benefit from instruction grounded in thorough, evidence-based research. This approach integrates proven teaching methods into everyday classroom routines, ensuring a consistent and effective learning experience.
