Melissa Ramirez, Ed.D., the newly named Director of Humanities in Spring Branch ISD (SBISD), brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to education. Her journey as an educator was shaped by both personal and professional influences.
Growing up in Spring Branch and graduating from Stratford High School, Ramirez was inspired by her mother, who was also an educator. This connection ignited her passion for nurturing young minds and advocating for the opportunities high-quality education provides.
Ramirez's career spans various levels and roles, including elementary, middle, and high school settings, as well as academic support at the University of Houston-Downtown. Since 2006, she has been a member of the SBISD team, where she has tirelessly supported campuses, teachers, and students. Her tenure has been marked by a belief that Every Child deserves access to the best possible education.
When asked about her decision to build her career in SBISD, Ramirez highlights the district's unique position as a microcosm of Houston, encompassing a diverse array of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. She embraces SBISD's commitment to T-2-4, which aims to ensure that all students graduate equipped to attain a technical certification, military training, or a 2-year or 4-year degree. Close to her heart are SBISD's Core Values, which resonate deeply with her beliefs.
As Ramirez steps into her new role, her goal is clear: to foster a Collaborative Spirit among the community, campuses, and departments of SBISD to meet the evolving needs of all children. "Literacy is the foundation for all learning experiences," said Ramirez.
“I am excited about furthering SBISD's priorities through innovative educational practices and building relationships within the community. It’s going to be an amazing year!”
