SBISD earns statewide honor as a CTE District of Distinction for the second consecutive year

Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) has again been named a CTE District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT), placing the district among a select group of Texas systems recognized for exemplary leadership, innovation, and measurable outcomes in preparing students for high-wage, high-demand careers.

This repeat recognition reinforces SBISD’s position as a district delivering strong career preparation at a time when Houston leaders continue to emphasize the importance of economic mobility and workforce readiness for the region’s future.

A district preparing students for what comes next

SBISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are designed to give students real skills, real credentials, and real access to opportunity. The district’s work is anchored in its T-2-4 vision for Every Child.

CTAT’s designation highlights SBISD’s impact in several key areas:

  • 26+ aligned career pathways connected to Houston’s fastest-growing industries

  • Over 1,000 industry-based certifications earned each year in fields such as health science, business and finance, construction, welding, education and training, and information technology—among many others

  • More than 170 business and industry partners providing students with job-site learning, internships, and mentorship opportunities

  • Expanding access for students historically underrepresented in high-value programs

  • Consistent year-over-year growth in both CTE participation and credential attainment

These outcomes demonstrate that SBISD students are not only career-aware but career-ready equipped with the skills and experiences that lead to meaningful, living-wage employment or postsecondary credentials that strengthen long-term earning potential.

Leaders underscore the impact

“Our goal is not only to graduate students but to graduate them into opportunity and options,” said, SBISD Director of Career and Technical Education Christina RiceImumwen. “This honor reflects the commitment of our teachers, partners, and students who are building skills that carry real value in the workforce.”

Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Blaine added, “Our T-2-4 vision is about making sure Every Child leaves SBISD prepared for the path they choose. Being recognized as a District of Distinction for the second year confirms the strength of our programs and the dedication of the SBISD community to our work.”

A model for the region

As Houston looks to address growing workforce needs across energy, health care, skilled trades, advanced manufacturing, and technology, SBISD’s continued statewide recognition underscores how a public school district can serve as a powerful driver of regional economic mobility.
