Courage and compassion: Two SBISD Employees receive "#IAmSBISD" Award

At the September meeting of the Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) Board of Trustees, two employees were honored with the "#IAmSBISD" Award for going above and beyond in service to others and modeling the district’s Core Values.

The award recognition publicly acknowledges employees who embody the district's Core Values in their daily work, making a lasting difference for students, families, and the community.

Core Values in Action

Both honorees exemplify SBISD’s Core Values in action: a Moral Compass that guides toward what is right, Collaborative Spirit in serving others with dignity, and Collective Greatness by stepping up when it matters most.

“Officer Vanderberry and Ms. Junejo show us that our Core Values are more than words on a wall,” said Buchman. “They reflect who we are as a district and are brought to life each day by employees who put students, families, and community at the center of everything they do.”

SBISD extends its gratitude and congratulations to Officer Vanderberry and Ms. Junejo for their outstanding service and well-deserved recognition.

Officer Abraham Vanderberry

The first honoree, SBISD Police Officer Abraham Vanderberry, was recognized for his decisive actions that ensured the safety of a local faith community when it faced an urgent security threat. Responding swiftly to a call for assistance, Officer Vanderberry gathered and shared critical information with law enforcement partners, preventing what could have been a serious incident.

“Through his courage, professionalism, and collaborative spirit, Officer Vanderberry helped safeguard hundreds of people,” said SBISD Police Chief Larry Baimbridge. “He is a credit to the SBISD Police Department and a shining example of integrity and service.”

Jacqueline Junejo

The second honoree, Lion Lane staff member Jacqueline Junejo, was celebrated for stepping in to help a family following a serious car accident on Voss Road. Junejo immediately comforted and cared for the family’s three young children, one as young as six months, while first responders assisted their mother.

Associate Superintendent of Communications and Community Engagement Linda Buchman shared how the family described Junejo’s compassion as life-changing during one of the scariest moments of their lives. “Jacqueline’s selflessness and kindness embody exactly what it means to be SBISD,” Buchman said.
