Memorial and Stratford high schools will host special, socially distanced Letter of Intent Signing Day ceremonies on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Family, friends and other supporters will attend these annual celebration events.
National Signing Day for student-athletes who elect to make fall-semester college and university decisions will attend outdoor events filled with balloons, waves of hand clapping, and festive decorated cakes.
Scheduled Wednesday events include a 10:30 a.m. celebration for 12 students on the Memorial baseball fields. At Stratford, eight students will sign letters of intent at 3:15 p.m. at the high school’s stadium.
“We are incredibly proud of all our student-athletes who have opportunities now to compete at the next level of competition,” said SBISD Executive Director of Athletics Paige Hershey. “The signees represent and are strong examples of the district’s key T-2-4 goal for all students to pursue and obtain college degrees, or gain technical certification and military training.”
“We celebrate with our community these incredible student-athletes, many who are also tops inside their school classrooms and in their respective sports,” SBISD Superintendent Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D., said. “They have the academic foundation needed because of so many great teachers, and the athletic base for their future successes because of our committed coaches and staffs.”
This year, Nov. 11 represents the first possible date for student-athletes bound for NCAA affiliated colleges and universities to sign in most sports.
