SBISD students and teachers earn statewide recognition in media production

 

 

Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is celebrating big news: students from Spring Woods High School (SWHS) and the Guthrie Center have been named 2025 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Lone Star Chapter Student Production Awards nominees. Winners will be announced online October 15.

Spring Woods High School - Eva Zapata, Alexander Jenkins, Emely Zapata, Noah Alamos-Gutierrez, Cesar Tovar, Mayte Hernandez, Jonathan Razo, Emily Limas, Nicole Colunga & Stephanie Reyes-Hernandez

SWHS students earned nominations across multiple categories:

  • Non-Fiction – Short Form
    • Super Powers – Eva Zapata, Narrator/Editor/Videographer
    • Through It All – Alexander Jenkins, Narrator/Editor/Videographer

  • Non-Fiction – Long Form
    • Paciencia Y Fe – Emely Zapata, Narrator/Editor/Videographer

  • Public Service Announcement (PSA)
    • Stop Bullying – Noah Alamos-Gutierrez, Narrator; Cesar Tovar, Actor; Mayte Hernandez, Videographer; Jonathan Razo, Actor
    • What is bullying? – Emily Limas, Narrator/Actor; Nicole Colunga, Actor; Stephanie Reyes-Hernandez, Videographer

These students are guided by Mr. Joshua Ault, SBISD’s 2024–2025 Secondary Teacher of the Year, who brings professional journalism and film experience into the classroom. His students produce work that rivals college-level productions and gain valuable preparation for post-secondary opportunities in film, media, and beyond.

 

 

The Guthrie Center - Xavier Alexander

At the Guthrie Center, Xavier Alexander earned nominations in two categories for his project A Nobody With Two Faces:

Non-Fiction – Short Form
• A Nobody With Two Faces – Xavier Alexander, Director

Photographer
• A Nobody With Two Faces – Xavier Alexander, Cinematographer

He studies under Mr. Horacio Rodriguez, who spent more than a decade producing live sports and independent films before bringing that real-world expertise into SBISD’s career and technical education (CTE) classrooms.

A Nobody With Two Faces has received significant recognition at both the state and national levels. It was named State 2nd Runner Up for Documentary 6A Category at the 2025 UIL Young Filmmakers Competition. The film has also won:

  • National Scholastic Silver Medal for Film and Animation

  • Best Picture at the Humanities Rising Film Festival


Celebrating Excellence

Together, these nominations showcase SBISD’s strength in instruction at both the campus level and through the district’s central CTE programming. With teachers who bring industry knowledge and a vision for T-2-4 for Every Child, SBISD students are gaining the skills, confidence, and career readiness to thrive after graduation.

On October 15, the community will be tuned in and cheering for our talented nominees!
