SBISD’s Best Athletes Stand Out at Texas Relays

A Memorial High School athlete who stands out in long jump and high jump was among several Spring Branch ISD student athletes or track and field teams invited to compete recently at the popular annual Texas Relays, a statewide gathering of top high school athletes.

The state competition was conducted March 28-30 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

Among other results, Memorial High junior Claire Bryant excelled in elite high school-level competition, returning with a gold medal. Bryant is viewed as a likely returnee to Austin next month for the state UIL athletic contests.

She ranks today as one of the state’s best female jumpers, placing first in the long jump and fifth overall in the high jump at the Texas Relays.

Claire was also recently honored by the Memorial Hermann Ironman Sports Medicine Institute as AT&T Athlete of the Week. Watch video here

Four Stratford High girls also brought home a bronze medal in the girls distance medley relay with a fast time of 12:27.96. Leading most of the runners in their race were Jana Mahlich, Sara Akpan, Ella Gibb and Fay Gibb.
