As we gear up for another school year, it's a perfect time to reflect on the progress we've made in the Spring Branch Independent School District’s (SBISD) Career and Technical Education (CTE) program over the past year.
Celebrating Student Impact
SBISD has experienced a significant 9% increase in CTE enrollment, now totaling 10,583 students. This growth highlights our commitment to expanding College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) opportunities for our students. Our Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) programs also flourished, with 10 chapters advancing to state and national competitions and three new chapters added. This expansion reflects the growing influence and success of our CTE offerings.
As we introduce new programs to our CTE curriculum this school year, we encourage middle school families to explore these opportunities as they plan for high school. Supported by the facility upgrades from the 2022 Bond program, these new offerings will be unveiled soon—stay tuned for more details this fall!
Enhancing the Classroom Experience
In the past two years, SBISD invested $1.3 million from the 2017 Bond to upgrade technology, furniture, and equipment in our CTE classrooms and labs. This significant investment underscores our dedication to providing high-quality learning environments that prepare students for their futures.
We also dedicated 485 hours to designing projects under the 2022 Bond, incorporating feedback from 10 industry partners to ensure our facilities meet top industry standards. This careful planning guarantees that our courses and facilities are aligned with the needs of our students, setting them up for future success.
Building Community Connections
Community engagement has been a vital part of our CTE program's success. Our Bridge Year Career Test Drive program alone impacted 1,500 seventh graders, providing them with early career insights. With the support of 156 industry partners, we've enabled over 4,300 students to gain meaningful real-world experience through internships, guest speakers and field trips. These initiatives have enriched our students' learning and prepared them for future success.
SBISD also secured $37,500 in new grants to enhance our programming and celebrated $1,137,500 in awards and scholarships for Guthrie Center students through various partnerships and programs. Additionally, we invested $64,908 to support student participation in state and national CTSO competitions, reinforcing our commitment to student success beyond the classroom.
Looking Ahead
We are #SBISDProud of this year’s achievements and look forward to further strengthening our focus on career and technical education in the coming years. To learn more about CTE in SBISD, visit our program website and stay informed about the exciting developments ahead.
