This event signifies the initiation of the bond program's major construction phase, underscoring the district's unwavering dedication to delivering top-tier Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming.

Guthrie Center has stood as a cornerstone of CTE in SBISD for over five decades. Set to rise in its place, the forthcoming state-of-the-art facility embodies a visionary approach to 21st-century learning environments.

Scheduled for completion in 2026, the new Guthrie Center promises a paradigm-shifting educational experience. With cutting-edge features like a state-of-the-art automotive lab and cosmetology and barbering, the new center will offer unparalleled opportunities for students to immerse themselves in real-world scenarios, preparing them for myriad career pathways.

"Today, we embark on a journey to shape the future of education in SBISD," said Travis T. Stanford Associate Superintendent for Operations.

Community engagement was integral to the design process, with a dedicated Project Advisory Team (PAT) collaborating closely with PBK Architects to provide input on the project design. Additionally, CTE educators played a pivotal role in shaping the learning spaces, ensuring that the center not only meets current educational needs but also remains adaptable to future industry trends.

The project's scope includes seamless operational continuity during construction to minimize disruption to ongoing educational activities. Upon the center's completion, the existing center will give way to previous existing sports fields and additional site improvements, further enhancing the campus environment.

"At every turn of the design process, collaboration ignited innovation," remarked Christina Rice-Imumwen, SBISD's Career and Technical Education Director. "Witnessing the collective efforts of our community, educators, and staff materialize into reality fills me with immense joy and pride."

Approved by an overwhelming 73% of the vote in May 2022, the 2022 Bond Program fulfills the commitment established in the 2017 Bond Program to develop a world-class Career and Technical Education (CTE) program and facilities in SBISD.

CTE serves as a vital bridge connecting students' academic and technical education to the workforce, aligning with SBISD's T-2-4 vision, where every graduate attains a technical certificate, military training, or a two-year or four-year degree.

"Today's groundbreaking marks a pivotal step towards realizing SBISD's vision of T-2-4 for Every Child," said Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D., SBISD Superintendent of Schools. "By prioritizing Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming, we're equipping students with the skills and opportunities they need to achieve success in their academic and professional journeys."

The Guthrie Center project epitomizes SBISD's steadfast commitment to providing innovative educational opportunities for all students. As a cornerstone of the broader 2022 Bond Program, which includes comprehensive updates to CTE labs and facilities across middle and high schools, it represents a significant investment in the district's future.
