A spirit of cooperation permeates the Capitol in Austin these days, with leaders almost uniformly saying that school finance reform and property tax reform will get done during the 140-day biennial session. SBISD has long asked the Legislature for relief from recapture – Robin Hood – which takes local school tax dollars and puts them into the state’s general fund, basically supplanting the state’s share of education funding. Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri have already been active around the Capitol, visiting with local and other key legislators and their staffs.
