Forty-six young artists enrolled in Spring Branch ISD middle and high schools have earned Scholastic Art awards in annual regional competition sponsored through the Harris County Dept. of Education (HCDE).

This year, 15 students won Gold Key awards. Their works now advance for final judging at the national level. Fourteen students received Silver Key art awards, and 17 more student works earned Honorable Mention recognitions.

The 46 separate honors mark one of the highest award totals in recent SBISD history. District students will be honored with their peers in regional ceremonies planned on Feb. 21 for middle school winners and on Feb. 28 for high school honorees.

The next generation of creative leaders in the arts are celebrated and honored through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This year’s recipients join the ranks of iconic famous artists and photographers, from pop artist Andy Warhol to celebrity photographer Richard Avedon.

HCDE serves each year as the regional sponsor for the prestigious national Scholastic Art program and judges thousands of student entries submitted by teen artists. For this year, HCDE judges evaluated a record 6,225 entries from across Harris County.
