Academically Prepared: Anna Koenig

For senior Anna Koenig, being part of Memorial High School (MHS) has meant more than just classes and grades—it’s been about opportunities, encouragement, and learning how to believe in herself.

“My favorite part about MHS is all the opportunities to participate in different activities,” Anna said. “I love science because it offers so many different perspectives of the world around us. And being involved in theatre has helped me build strong communication skills. As Vice President of our theatre department, I get to help keep everyone connected and working together.”

Anna has a lot to be proud of this year, including receiving a scholarship that she worked hard to earn. She says her teachers and counselors have been an important part of her journey. “I’ve been an office aide since freshman year, and I’ve built great relationships with my counselors. They’ve been there for me through everything—celebrating my wins and coaching me through my losses.”

Those relationships gave Anna the confidence to take initiative when it mattered most. She started her college essays and applications over the summer so she could enjoy her senior year while preparing for what comes next. “To me, being Academically Prepared means doing your work when it’s given to you, showing up to class, and participating to your fullest extent,” Anna explained.

Looking ahead, Anna plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre and hopes to move to New York City to follow her dreams. “Memorial has helped me evaluate all my options in life to make the right choice for me,” she said.

Her advice to younger students is simple but powerful: “Advocate for yourself. In life, you have to be your biggest supporter. Almost everything I’ve achieved has come from my own hard work and dedication—and I’m so grateful that the hard work is paying off.”

With the support of her teachers, counselors, family, and the larger SBISD community, Anna has grown into a leader who is ready to take on the future.

Anna is a shining example of what it means to leave SBISD ready for the world: confident, prepared, and full of possibility.
